Kompas.com statement expressed surprise the former Barcelona defender who currently plays for AS Monaco, Eric Abidal. 34-year-old was admitted, when fighting illness in Barcelona, he was not paid by the club.



Abidal had experienced difficult times in his life. He was diagnosed with a liver tumor and had to undergo surgery. In addition, for several months, he had to undergo a period of recovery. Abidal was sidelined for about a year, and he admitted during Barcelona's also not paying its obligations.

"It's hard to understand what Barcelona said during my last press conference. Leaving is not an issue of money. Clearest evidence is that for months I was sick, the club does not pay me," said Abidal told L'Equipe.

"When the contract expires, there are only two options, namely to extend or not. Both situations I was ready for it, but there is no new contract agreement is difficult for me to accept," he continued.

Abidal also explained that he felt more comfortable in Barcelona when Josep Guardiola still train. According Abidal, if Barcelona coach Guardiola remains to this day, he still believes will play for the Catalan club.

"Of course the situation could be different if there Guardiola. Guardiola is a person who can appreciate me. I'll stick with it. He was a great coach and gave me the opportunity. If he was in Barcelona, maybe I'll continue there," said Abidal.

"However, I'm now lucky enough to be trusted coach and president in Monaco. Everything went well although there was a period in my life that makes a doubt in my career. Adventures in Barcelona has come to an end and I'm very happy to have started again in Monaco," said Abidal.
